As you start up the stairs, Paul comes running to find you to update your objectives. Despite telling you he’s going to give you ammo for the riot prod you receive a nanokey for his apartment. The public access terminals dotted around provide interesting and occasionally useful background details. Hack the ATM for 262 credits before heading out.
At the top of the stairs Alex radios in with news of yet another hostage situation at the 'Ton Hotel—where your brother’s apartment is located. Outside the subway as you exit find 10 credits plus another lockpick on the bench. There are bodies near the subway exit near those steps on the left of this shot. Search for a biocell.
You can break the door at the top of the steps with your baton if you activate your strength augmentation. Inside is this thug. Make sure to deactivate the aug before knocking him out.
Break the window and use a pepper spray to stun these thugs who will kill the man in the middle if you wait too long. The pepper spray also affects the man in the brown coat, but he won’t mind too much as long as you don’t attack him. The guys in black are easily taken out with your prod in a stunned state. 2 more thugs guard the entrance to the basketball coort - give them the same treatment.
When the "bum" has calmed down, speak to him to learn that the NSF use underground tunnels and
sewers to move equipment. He gives you the password underworld for when you see Curly (whoever
that is!).
Leave the basketball court and turn left to exit to the street.
Turn left again, then head South to this point—the Underworld Tavern. On the left is a closed store, but you can break the door in with your baton using augmented strength. Inside you can get 400 credits in exchange for 2 multitools, but take care not to alert the defense systems. Head into the Underworld.
Talk to the man here and say you’re "just curious" to learn his wife has the plague. Talk to him
again and he’ll reveal the code 3316 to a lift used by the NSF. This completes a secondary goal to
converse with the locals about the location of the generator.
Head behind the bar for this datacube with the code 8852. The small room opposite the bar contains
a credit chit worth 15 credits.
Speak to Jock at the end of the bar. He promises to reveal information about military hardware in exchange for booze. If you’ve already got some he’ll tell you it’s warm. Talk to the lady behind the bar. If you remark on her augmentations you learn she’s ex-UNATCO, and that the NSF are using JoJo’s warehouse near Osgood & Sons, to the South. Speak with her again and buy a beer for Jock. He tells you about a character called Smuggler. For another beer he’ll expand on his theories about Area 51 and global surveillance. Speak with him once more to learn he’s also with UNATCO and flies your brother around in a chopper.
Head further back into the bar to see these two seated up some steps. Ignore the man on the left—a reporter who’ll earn you harsh words from Manderley—but speak to Janey on the right. You are given a new secondary objective to investigate what Johnny’s up to with her friend in an alley to the West of the tavern.
Head back out the way you came. Hack these 2 ATMS for 205c and 22c before leaving via the door shown.
Outside, head to the alley behind the bar, and behind those fence panels just visible on the right to find Johnny harassing a girl.
Talk to Johnny and tell him he’s got 10 seconds to get lost. He eventually runs off. Talk with
Sandra Renton to learn that Johnny works for a punk called JoJo. Speak with her again about Smuggler
and she’ll reveal the password to his hideout: bloodshot.
Head further round the alley to witness a firefight break out between the NSF and the troops. On the left here is the other entrance to the Underworld Tavern—head in.
Return to Janey and she’ll reveal the code 3316—but we already learned that.
The door next to bar is open and leads down to the storeroom and office. The storeroom can be opened
with the code 8852, but doesn’t contain anything useful. The other door can be broken
using augmented strength. Inside is a locked box (1 lockpick) which gets you a biocell and 2
multitools.
Exit the tavern via the back door (opposite the ATMs) to find a datacube among the trash with the
account details 947761/2867. We’ve hacked the ATMs in the tavern, so they’re now out of order.
At the end of the alley are two disgruntled UNATCO troops who’ll give you a couple of gas grenades
(unless they’ve got caught up in the on-going fighting with NSF soldiers). Time to visit Paul’s
apartment. Place a small metal crate beneath the fire-escape ladder visible on the left here so you
can get onto it and climb up.
You’re rewarded with a 40 point exploration bonus because this open window leads to Paul’s apartment.
Swipe the 350c chit near Paul’s bed before heading to the living room. On the coffee table is a datacube hinting that you should investigate the painting, and a clue to a code. Also there is a blackjack—an improved version of the baton.
Interact with the painting to reveal a numeric keypad and enter the code 4321 to reveal a hidden
closet. Swipe the biocell, medikit, ballistic armour, and pepper spray, and read the datacube giving
Paul’s login: pdenton/chameleon. Login on the PC for some background emails. The nanokey given you
by Paul earlier opens the door to his apartment.
Round the hall are 2 terrorists each with a hostage. The trouble is they’re standing in a way where they can see each other, making taking them out a bit more difficult. If you take one out and the other sees you’ll put the lives of the hostages at risk. Retreat a little way into the shadows and make some small noise (the "vocalize" trick works well here) to attract the attention of one of the guards.
Wait for him to stop searching, and he should stay in a position out of the line of sight of the other (on the far right here), leaving you the simple task of knocking them both out with your new baton.
When they’re dealt with, speak with this former hostage who will give you a password: righteous.
Follow the corridor round to the left before the stairs.
One more hostage is held downstairs by the last remaining NSF. This datacube holds the account
number 543654/5544. You can see a tripwire at the top of the stairs here. Jump over the balcony,
and quietly approach the door to the reception where the hostage is standing in this shot.
The terrorist is hidden in the corner. Firing the pepper spray from here should catch him so you can sweep in and knock him out with your baton. Speak to Gilbert Renton about his daughter Sandra.
The credit chit is worth 50c. Take all the nanokeys from the shelf. Break down the door to find another 25c, and a closet—again, your baton deals with the door—for a medikit.
Head to the elevator shaft to find supply crates containing a biocell and a multitool. You can climb the shaft to find a gas grenade. There are 3 locked rooms on the first floor. The one to the North has a supply crate with a biocell, and a locked door (breakable) behind which is a closet with darts in it. One to the South contains nothing of interest.
To the East you’ll find a medikit and a biocell, along with this sorry tableau. Head back downstairs.
On the way out is this ATM. Use the bank details we found outside the Underworld
(947761/2867) for 62c. The account details we found in the hotel (543654/5544) also
work for 100c. Finally, hack it for its remaining 85c before heading outside.
The firefight between UNATCO and NSF troops should be over by now. If not, find someplace warm and dark to lie low until it’s over.
Search any bodies you find. This unfortunate NSF soldier was carrying the front door key to Osgood & Sons.
The front door key can also be found in this park to the West under a bench. Head into the free clinic shown here on the right.
Wait for these 2 to finish reminiscing before talking to the man on the right.
Inside, talk to the man seated here. He tells you the NSF are holed up in Osgood & Sons—good job we have a key. He also mentions something about tunnels, which might well be worth investigating. Head through the doors beyond him.
Tell the angry punter he should be more appreciative and he’ll leave. Note the case on the left in the background can be broken into for a medikit. Hack the PC at the rear for some background emails. The door requires a lockpick and gets you a multitool. I decide it’s not worth the exchange.
Speak with the doctor. He’s grateful and gives you a 40% discount, including on the "full program".
I take it, and he gives me the code 2153 to the surgery bay…
The surgery bay is right next, and sure enough the code 2153 gets you access to the medical bots
beyond. I choose the aqualung from the canister collected at Castle
Clinton. Don’t forget to heal any damage you’ve sustained. Talk to everyone you meet on your way out
and receive 150 points skill bonus.
