Time to go to work. Head to the Versalife entrance in the mall. Enter the code
06288 into the keypad, and then go up in the elevator.
You get 125 skill points for entering the building. The guard at the top instructs you to speak to the receptionist. Quite a reception! Speak to the receptionist who will inform you that Mr Hundley is making his rounds upstairs, and wears a black suit. Security tell you that no pass is needed for the first 3 floors. Head up the stairs on the right.
I find Hundley on the top floor. Speak to him. He wants 2000c for a tour of the labs. There are cheaper options. Take a moment to admire the view up here, including a spectacular fish tank.
You can hack any of the PCs in this building to create a security pass for free. Alternatively,
speak to the lone worker on this floor. He’ll get you a pass if you kill Hundley. You only need to
knock him out, but make sure to do it out of sight of the many cameras (Hundley carries 100c).
Return to this guy and he gives you the elevator code: 6512. The elevator is along the corridor
next to him, but we can afford a little exploration first.
In the SE corner of the room with the late shift guy is this grate. It’s unlocked.
Don’t miss the lockpick. Keep left here.
Follow it to the end and open another grate for 75 skill points—you’re in the fish tank! A laser weapon mod, medikit, and some ammo are down there if you’re up for a swim.
Return to the elevator and use the code 6512 on the keypad. Take the elevator down.
At the bottom the supervisor comes running up to tell you not to bother the scientists of make any kind of trouble.
Beyond him is this huge hall with its iconic hand sculpture, patrolled by a commando and flamethrower-wielding guard. At the far end, beyond the hand, there are corridors to the right and left. Go left (North) first.
Beneath the glass floor are the labs you’re trying to get to. Follow the corridor round and take another elevator up.
At the top is a balcony overlooking the hall with the hand sculpture—it’s quite a cool view. The
datacube tells you that MChow should have root system access, but doesn’t give a password. Hack
the security console to disable 3 cameras and open 2 doors. Swipe the nanokey for an augmentation
chamber (sounds promising!) before heading back downstairs and along the opposite corridor.
Up here is a snall armoury, a board room where some scientists are arguing, and a kitchen area with
a couple of scientists and a guard. One guard (the guy with the flamethrower) patrols. A datacube
in the kitchen gives the code 525 to shut down a "UC". Could that stand for Universal
Constructor? There’s a locked cases in the boardroom containing datacubes, but picking the lock or
smashing the case will raise an alarm.
You therefore need to knock everyone in the boardroom out, but whack the patrolling guard first (out of sight of everyone else). Pepper spray works well here. Break the case using the Dragon’s Tooth sword.
The cabinet contains a biocell and 2 datacubes. One provides the code 5878 to an augmentation
canister, and the master password DAMOCLES. If you’ve been quiet, the rest of the guards will
remain where they are (there’s another datacube in the armoury with a login to the security
consoles, but you already disabled the cameras).
Go back downstairs to the hand sculpture where you can now access the lower floor. Go down for 50 skill points.
Tong radios in to say the ROM encoding is nearby. The door on the right leads to the Level 2 labs, but no need to go there now. Go down the stairs.
There it is. It’s pretty well guarded—2 patrol at the top (1 of them beyond the "Level 2 Access" door, and another guard plus a WIB in here. Accessing the ROM encoding is going to raise all sorts of alarms, but there’s some exploring to do first. To make escape easier, either knock out all the patrols now, or later, your choice.
Head through the door to the West to find the barracks. Another guard patrols in and out of here, but the rest of the guards in here are too difficult to knock out silently. On the right are some boxes to break if you want a rebreather and hazmat suit. Some crates behind a breakable barrier contain a GEP gun. There are locked lockers up both sets of stairs. All the patrolling guards carry the nanokey to open them for minor supplies.
At the end of the bunks up the North stairs is an interesting vent. Head in, and take the first right.
It comes out here. On top of the ducting on the left are clip and range mods. In the far left corner is a handy repair bot.
In the wall next to the repair bot is a breakable vent. Use your sword to break it (you’ll need Speed Enhancement on to crouch-jump into the vent). Go right and right again to earn 35 skill points and an augmentation upgrade canister. Definitely worth the effort. Go back to the barracks, and turn left.
That’s Maggie Chow talking to someone behind a window. Sneak over and listen to them talking about a UC (that again?) and something called "Icarus". Head down some nearby stairs when they’re finished.
In the room ahead is a datacube that describes shipping the Gray Death virus to New York using a superfreighter. Walton Simons is somehow involved. Also in here is a hazmat suit and a lockpick.
The adjoining room contains what we really came for—a bunch of augmentation canisters. The
code 5878 opens the room, but it’s a hazardous environment.
Nearby is a locked room guarded by an MJ12 commando. There’s also another nearby vent, just visible here on the left. Head in and go right to pick the lock of another vent into the locked room (you can also explore more of the vents for 50 skill points if you want to grapple with a Greasel).
Use the root login MChow/DAMOCLES on the PC. Read a few emails and then
use the Special Options screen to disable the radiation and open all the suspension crates.
Your reward is a biocell and 3 augmentation canisters: Aggressive Defense/Spy Drone, Tracking/Vision Enhancement, Radar Transparency/Cloak. I upgrade the Spy Drone, and install Vision Enhancement and Cloak. I’ve gathered 3 upgrade canisters, so I use 2 of them to upgrade Cloak to Tech 3—I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be useful in the upcoming escape!
Head back to the room with the ROM encoding. It’s probably worth revisiting the
repair bot to recharge on the way. Ride the elevator up and use the root
login MChow/DAMOCLES to access the PC. Click the button to upload the encoding to
Tong’s network. Tong radios in to say he’s received it and you get 150 skill points.
Sure enough the alarm goes up. Head up the stairs, and back along this passage. Be alert for any guards responding to the alarm. Up the stairs at the far end takes you back to the hand sculpture.
At the sculpture activate cloak and speed enhancement and just dash to the elevator at the far end. Ride it up.
Be careful when opening the lift doors as there’s a camera. You cloak does not hide you from cameras. Keep a biocell handy, activate speed enhancement and dash round the corner at the end before the camera raises the alarm. Speak to the late-shift guy and warn him to get out.
Note the camera at the top left here—there are more all the way down the stairs. I choose a shortcut: activate speed enhancement and cloak and jump over the railing to reception below, then make a dash for the elevator (at the bottom right here). Another camera is nearby, so call the elevator and dive in quickly before the alarm. Ride this one back down to Wan Chai market.
When you exit the lift you’re given a new primary goal: meet the Triad leaders at the Wan Chai temple. We visited earlier and learned it had temporarily relocated to the North East.
The new temple is just North of the Luminous Path compound, identifiable by the huge golden Buddha outside. Head in and speak to the Dragon Heads Max Chen and Gordon Quick.
A brief ceremony ensues which cements the truce between the Triad factions. The Triad leaders invite you to help them celebrate later at the Lucky Money, but that in the meantime you should return to Tracer Tong. You get 3x150 skill points.
Head to the Luminous Path compound to meet Tong. He needs you to go back to Versalife to discover
how the Gray Death virus is manufactured, and gives you the code 55655 to a rear entrance near
Canal Road. He also mentions that a Versalife R&D scientist went missing when the Canal Road tunnel
collapsed. That sounds worth investigating. Recharge at the repair bot in the maintenance area
before heading back towards the Wan Chai markets.
