Jock drops you off on the roof of the 'Ton Hotel. Tong radios in to tell you to contact Harley Filben at the Underworld Tavern. As I head down the fire escape ladder Tong contacts me again—Hell’s Kitchen is under martial law, and the troops will shoot on sight. That’s going to make getting around a little more tricky. I decide there may be snipers on rooftops, so I climb back up and jump the gap to the building opposite, then climb a ladder to the higher roof.
I am rewarded by discovering this sniper, who gets the blackjack. Be careful up here because the troops below seem to have unbelievably sharp eyesight. A quick check around shows plenty of troops on the ground, and a wandering military bot, but no more snipers. I jump back to the roof of the 'Ton.
The rear entrance to the Underworld Tavern is at the foot of the fire escape. Head on in.
Speak to the marine in uniform at the bar. He’s concerned about strange goings-on at the submarine
base. Tell him you’d like to know too and he tells you his name is Vinny and that he’ll help you get
in the base. If you speak to the bartender she’ll complain how prices have increased. It’s best not
to mention Stanton Dowd. In the supply room downstairs use the code 8852 on
the keypad to get a lockpick, and break the door to the office to find an accuracy weapon mod in the
unlocked box.
Sandra Renton is in the booth opposite the bar. Speak to her repeatedly to learn that UNATCO is searching for you (no surprise there) and that you can trust Vinny.
The man on the left here doesn’t mind if you hang out. Seated behind him is Harley Filben. He tells you he’ll arrange a meeting with Stanton Dowd in the ruins of Osgood & Sons. He gives you a side quest to deal with Joe Green who he claims is a spy for UNATCO and Majestic-12. He was last seen at the free clinic.
Sneak over to the clinic. Keep a watch for patrolling troops.
There’s Joe Green in the SW corner. You don’t have to kill him to satisfy Filben just knock him out. You can speak with him first, but also best not to mention Stanton Dowd. If you reveal you know he works for UNATCO he’ll get angry and draw a pepper spray gun, making knocking him out harder.
If you mention Stanton Dowd to either Joe Green or Jordan Shea (the bartender at the Underworld Tavern) this guy will start following you and will cause a load of trouble if he gets close to Stanton Dowd.
Back at the clinic find a medikit in the back room before heading back to the Underworld Tavern to report in with Filben.
Taking out Green convinces Filben that you’ve switched sides. Head out the rear door of the Tavern by taking the left hand door opposite the ATMs on your way out.
Time to meet Stanton Dowd at Osgood’s which is SE of the Tavern’s rear entrance, beyond the little park. Avoid a patrolling guard and slip quietly over there.
Another guard is at the end of the street where 2 military bots patrol. Behind the bushes on the right is a broken window into the demolished warehouse. Head in, then immediately turn right into a tunnel.
At the end is Stanton Dowd, behind the grille. Speak to him to learn that the Majestic-12 Superfreighter is at the Advanced Sub Facility at the Brooklyn Naval Shipyards. You’ll need to scuttle the freighter and Dowd suggests a visit to Smuggler to get some explosives. He also tells you he’s contracted the Gray Death virus himself and asks you to bring him some Ambrosia vaccine. Head out the way you came in. Jock radios in to say there are a lot of troops heading your way. I’ve two augmentation upgrade canisters, so I upgrade the Power Recirculator to Tech 4. I’m going to try to get to Smuggler's hideout, and it’ll involve Cloaking. Even with the upgraded Recirculator it’s probably wise to keep biocells handy.
Once you’ve left Osgood’s, active Cloak plus Speed Enhancement and head East then North, crouched. If the troops hear you your cloak will be rendered useless. Remember that the bots can see you even if cloaked.
Once past the troops you can let loose. Jump over the steps at full speed (still cloaked, and with Speed Enhancement on) and dash past the troops guarding the gate. Head East.
You can crouch again as you head South (following the road) to the derelict building containing the entrance to Smuggler’s place. Save energy by disabling your augmentations and just sneak behind this guard, but be on the lookout for a patrolling military bot beyond him. As you enter Smuggler’s place Gunther contacts you with a threat.
The EMP laser have been re-enabled, so use a multitool on the control box in the room on the left (at least the doors aren’t locked this time).
As you enter Smuggler’s room, Jock contacts you to say that MJ12 troops are converging on your location, and to meet him on the roof of the 'Ton.
Speak to him and he’ll sell you LAMs (take them if you don’t have any). Warn him of the impending UNATCO raid, it will save his life.
Head upstairs to find Ford Schick. Speak to him and he gives you an upgrade canister. There’s a
lockpick nearby, and a crate in the roof rafters contains prod ammo. Use the code 432 on the nearby keypad to get thermoptic camoflage and other goodies before heading back
outside. Leave the way you entered—use the elevator.
As you leave the elevator, Cloak and activate Speed Enhancement to escape quickly, otherwise you’ll find your exit blocked by troops like this. Head North for the 'Ton hotel at full speed.
On your way to the roof you can go into Paul’s apartment and find a biocell and multitool in the secret room. The rest of the hotel is crawling with troops, so head to the roof where Jock will pick you up and take you to the Naval Shipyards.
